[Objective]To investigate the role of expressions of Angiopoietin-2(Ang-2) and vascular endo thelial growth factor(VEGF) in tumor angiogenesis in human colon cancer and to analyze their relationship with clinicopathological characteristics. [Methods]Immunohistochemistry was used to examine the expression of Ang-2, microvessel density(MVD) and VEGF protein in 62 cases with colon cancer. [Results] There was a significantly positive correlation between the expression of Ang2 protein and VEGF protein(r=0997, P〈001). The expression of Ang-2 was positively correlated with MVD in colon cancer(R1=0. 7011, P d0.05; R2=0. 754 , P〈0.05). Furthermore, the expression of Ang-2 and MVD in positive VEGF group were sig nificantly higher than those in negative VEGF group(P〈0.01). Higher Ang-2 and VEGF expression level were found in colon cancer cases with lamina and muscularis propria, positive lymph node metastasis. During different Dukes stages in colon caneer,Ang-2 and VEGF in A plus B stage were lower than those in C plus D stage. [Conelusion]Over-expression of Ang 2, VEGF and their interaction in human colon cancer may show higher tumor angiogenesis. Ang-2 and VEGF may play an important role in tumor transfer, progression and angiogenesis in colon cancer.
