摘　　要：插图作为辞典的组成部分,与文字一样具有十分重要的作用。但人们往往将其视为文字附属物,忽略了它在辞典释义、美化辞典等方面的作用。本文从插图的定义、作用等方面入手初步探讨《朗文当代英语大辞典》插图的优点及存在的不足。Illustration is a part of a dictionary,which is as important as the script. However, many people consider illustrations as affiliations to a dietionary＂ so their functions sueh as explaining the meaning of a word and embellishing a dictionar＂t are neglected. This paper, beginning with the introduction to the definition and functions of the illustrations in a dictionary, discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the illustrations in ＂Longman Dictionary of English Language ＆ Culture＂.
