Objective:To investigate the expressions of NF-KBp65 and IκBα in oral leukoplakia(OLK) and oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC) as well as their correlationship. Methods: hnmunohistochemical staining technique was used to determine the expressions of NF- KBp65 and IκBα in all specimens : 46 OLK specimens and 36 OSCC specimens; 10 eases of normal oral mueosa(NM) tissues were regarded as normal control. Results:The pos- itive rates of NF-KBp65 in NM, simple hyperplasia OLK, dysplasia OLK and OSCC were 0% , 9. 09% , 42.86% , and 72.22% respectively, and a statistical significance was observed among them( P 〈 0. 05 ). There were expressions of IκBα in each stage with different levels which showed a dynamic process: The positive rates were 10.00% , 81.82% , 48.57% , and 86.11% respectively, and a statistical significance was observed among them(P 〈 0.05). Spearman rank correlation analysis showed a correlation between expressions of NF-KBp65 and IκBα protein in OLK(P 〈0.05) and in OSCC specimens (P 〈0.05). Conelusion:NF- KBp65 and IκBα protein may be useful for evaluating the malignant potential of OLK and early diagnosis of OSCC.
