摘　　要：哈代的小说中存在浓厚的宿命论和命运观,《德伯家的苔丝》充分体现其悲剧般的命运观。通过对意象及其特征的描述,解读哈代在《德伯家的苔丝》中如何运用不同意象更加真切、形象地表现苔丝的悲剧命运。Hardy＇s novels embodied his thoughts of destiny and fatalism. Tess of the d＇ Urbervilles is a good case in point. The paper described the definition of image and its features. And it interpreted how Hardy manifested Tess＇ s tragic destiny more distinctly and vividly by means of using different images.
