It consists of three parts: a brief review on the appearance of the new English term “Geomatics” will be given in part 1; several definitions on this term given by the world known professors and scientists will be described in part 2; while the Chinese translation of this term will be discussed in part 3. The reason why the author suggests to translate it according to the meaning of Geo spatial information science will be explained. The discussion of Chinese translation of Geomatics means the formation and development of Geo spatial information science.
