摘  要:元语言是一种"工具语言"或"人为语言",元语言不仅在语言知识领域中广泛应用,还是外语教学活动中非常重要的一部分。通过在语法词汇层面上的编码,元语言作为一种符号系统参与交际活动,有助于在目的语语境下完成师生间的课堂话语交际。作为话语交际工具,元语言具有双重作用:作为过渡性语言有助于师生间的话语交际,作为辅助性语言可以帮助学生理解词语、语言现象及语法规则。文章探讨元语言在外语教师的课堂活动中所具有的重要意义、在外语教师话语行为中的具体体现,以及对于外语教学的启示。Abstract: As a matter of fact, matalanguage is a kind of instrumental language or manmade language. Therefore, matalanguge is not only widely used in linguistic field but also an important part of foreign language teaching. As a symbol system to participate in communicative activities, metalanguage can help teacher and students conduct communicative activities in class successfully at the background of target language through the cod- ing of grammar and vocabulary. As a communicative instrument, matalanguage can play a dual role, namely, a transitional language helpful to teacher and students to conduct communication in class successfully and an auxiliary language helpful to students to have a good understanding of vocabulary, language and grammatical rules.
