Objective To investigate the difference of anxiety and depression between functional dyspepsia (FD) patients and the healthy subjects, and to study the health - related quality of life (HRQL) of FD patients. Methods 69 FD patients and 69 healthy subjects were enrolled in this study, the anxiety and depression were evaluated by Zung self -rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self- rat- ing depressive scale (SDS), respectively. The HRQL of all subjects were assessed by a Chinese version of the MOS 36 - item short form health survey (SF-36). All the scales were compared and analyzed in 8 dimensions and 2 component -summaries (PCS, MCS). Results The scores of SAS and SDS were significantly higher in FD patients than those in healthy controls ( P 〈 0. 001 ) ; The SF - 36 assessment showed that all 8 dimensions and 2 component - summaries were significantly lower in FD groups than those in the healthy controls with a statistically significant difference ( P 〈 0.05 ). The QOL of FD group is the lower in two groups, especially the MCS. Conclusions SAS and SDS are closely correlated with FD and HQOL decreased markedly in patients with FD in both physieal and mental aspects. The decrement of QOL was more prominent in patients with FD than that in the healthy subjects.
