Objective: To observe the induction effects of dentin non-collagenous proteins(NCPs) extracted from pig teeth on reparative dentinogenesis. Methods: Direct pulp capping with isolated dentin NCPs was performed in the first molars of Wistar rats.Dycal and no medication were used as the control. The response of dentine-pulp complex was observed at 7 and 14 days after surgery. Results: 7 days After operation, standardized grading of the soft and hard tissue responses revealed no statistical significant differences among the treatment groups. After 14 days, NCPs samples and Dyeal samples showed improved soft and hard tissue repair when compared with the control. At this time point, samples from the control group displayed severe inflammation and Dycaltreated samples showed diffuse intrapulpal inflammation, whereas NCPs- treated samples exhibited mild inflammation localized to the exposure site only. Conclusion: The study indicate that the application of NCPs into the injured pulp may limit the inflammatory response, stimulate pulpal progenitor cells to differentiate into odontoblast - like cells which are responsible for the formation of reparative dentine. The distinguishing outcome of NCPs treatment suggest its potential as a pulp -capping medication.
