Lian"( 脸), a character created in the Northern and Southern Dynasties(420-589), is generally regarded as a word used only to describe rouged female upper cheek in the Middle Ancient Times. But it is not the true story. "Lian"(脸) meant cheek originally, and its sphere was wider than rouged upper part of cheek believed by many scholars. The author will furnish several proofs to the fact that "Lian"(脸) was used to describe cheek of human in the Middle Ancient Times, without sexual distinction.
