Chinese Heavy Industry Enters the Second Generation

摘  要:与"重一代"当年大炼钢铁、满足内需不同,如今显山露水的"重二代"多集结在装备制造领域。Different from the first-generation(around 2002) which aimed at iron and steel,electrolytic aluminum,ferrosilicon and other bulk industrial products,the upstarts of the second-generation heavy industry focuses more on the equipment manufacturing area,including developing new energy equipment used in shipbuilding,ocean engineering,ultra high-pressure industry,and clean coal technology etc.Around the year 2005,private capital began to try investing heavily in these high-end value chain fields that are far from the old ideas of China manufacturing,to become a major force in boosting China's economic growth. The first-generation heavy industry development relied on interior industrialization needs,and when it was replaced by the second generation,the changes in the global industry structure served as the main reason.The pay of workers in the heavy industry of Germany, Japan and South Korea is 7 to 20 times that of China's. History always repeats itself.Slapped with Macro-control in 2004, many enterprises of the first-generation heavy industry struggled to survive and now the crisis of 2009 has disturbed the second generation. On Aug.26,the State Council warned about duplication and surplus in several industries and vowed to promote a structural adjustment in many industries.In the future stricter supervision will be practiced and affected industries includes steel,cement and other traditional industries, as well as wind power,poly-silicon and other emerging ones. What kind of business logic will the second-generation heavy industry follow? What fate will rule it?
