摘　　要：“作为修辞的叙事”理论是当今美国修辞性叙事理论家詹姆斯·费伦创立的,他提出从修辞的角度对叙事作品进行研究。运用费伦的这一相关理论,本文对舍伍德·安德森的《林中之死》中主人公老妇人死时周围的环境进行解读,指出这一特定的叙事环境对突出作品主题意义的积极作用。The theory of narrative as rhetoric is put forward by James Phelan, the rhetorical theorist of narrative of America at present. He holds the view that narratives can be read from the rhetorical perspective. Based on Phelan＇s theory, this paper offers an attempted reading of the surroundings which the dying old woman was in from Death in the Woods with the purpose to reveal that the specific narrative surroundings play an important role in helping readers to understand the thematic meanings of the work.
