Objective:To investigate the effects of Critical Incident Stress Debriefing(CISD) on mental intervention of the disaster-relief soldiers. Methods: 316 disaster-relief soldiers were divided randomly into research(150 subjects) and control groups(166 subjects). The research group soldiers received CISD at day 11 after the earthquake. The results were evaluated by SCL-90 at day 10 and 5 months after the earthquake. Results: The SCL-90 scores of the soldiers in the two groups had no significant difference before the mental intervention(P0.05),but the scores of soldiers in the research group in the second evaluation were significantly lower than those obtained at the first evaluation, especially the scores of somatization and hostility(P0.05).The scores of the soldiers in the control group in the second evaluation were higher when compared with the first evaluation(P0.001).The scores of the soldiers in the research group were significantly lower than those in control group in the second evaluation(P0.001).Conclusion: In major disasters, the mental influence of disaster-relief people would last several months or even longer if without intervention.CISD is an effective mental intervention for disaster-relief soldiers.
