Objective To investigate the expression of Survivin and FAS in bladder transitional cell carcinoma (BTCC) as well as the correlation between their expression and clinical pathological characteristics and the correlation between these two factors. Methods Immunohistochemical S-P staining method was adopted for detecting the expression of Survivin and FA S in 49 cases of BTCC and 11 cases of cystitis. Results The positive expression rate of survivin in BTCC(69.4%,34/49) was significantly higher than that in cystitis(0%,0/11)(P〈0.01), and the positive expression rate of FAS in BTCC(38.8%,19/49) was significantly lower than that in cystitis(100%,11/11)(P〈0.01).The expression of survivin was correlated with tumor grade and clinical stage (P〈0.05, P〈0.05), and the expression of FA S was correlated with the clinical stage(P〈0.05). Spearman correlation analysis showed that there was a negative correlation between the expression of Survivin and FAS(r= -0.289,P〈0.05). Conclusions High positive expression of Survivin and low positive expression of FAS suggested that these two factors could be used for the early diagnosis of BTCC. These two factors might display their synergistic action through a common pathway in the development and progression of BTCC.
