摘　　要：《鸽翼》是亨利.詹姆斯晚期创作的一部杰出的作品,它为读者展现了一个有着多重性格和丰满个性的人物—米莉·西奥尔。受到死亡威胁的米莉·西奥尔向往自由,然而她又受困于自我身份的迷失;对生命的热爱,对爱情的渴求,使她不得不采取了"自欺";面对爱人和朋友的欺骗,她选择了"以德报怨"。她那近忽神性的美德震撼了每一位读者的心灵。透过细读文本的方法,文章着力分析女主人公米莉的性格特征,以揭示米莉的人格魅力。The Wings of The Dove is one of Henry James＇ s best works created in his later stage. James portrayed a multi - character image--Milly Theale in the novel. Though threatened by impending death, Milly longs for freedom. Puzzeled by the loss of her personal identity in the quest of freedom,Milly isolates herself from society. Due to her thirst for love,she chooses self-deception. Her forgiveness and generosity shamed those who deceive her. Her spiritual beauty impresses every reader with everlasting charm. This paper is an attempt to explore the charm of Milly＇ s character with the method of close reading of the novel.
