摘 要:在非强调的情况下,同一种句型连续出现,同一个实词重复出现,甚至几个谓语动词连续出现,都会违背英语"雅"的要求,然而,这些情况在汉语篇章中却常常十分妥帖。从消极修辞角度究其原因,发现英汉民族对"雅"的内涵理解不同,通往"雅"的途径也各异。提出英语通"雅"主要靠"求异",而汉语通"雅"主要靠"求同",深入辨析有助于提高英汉表达"雅"的表现力。The repetition of a sentence structure or a content word, or even several predicate verbs, if not for the sake of emphasis, is against the principle of "elegance" in English, but not in Chinese. After a probe into the reasons from the perspective of passive rhetorical device, this paper finds that English-speaking and Chinese-speaking people have different understanding of the connotation of elegance and differ in the ways to this rhetorical effect. The paper puts forward that English seeks "elegance" by "attaining different elements" while Chinese by "attaining similar elements". The differentiation is useful in improving the learners' ability to achieve elegance in English and Chinese.
