摘　　要：中西部理工高校英语专业建设目前面临学科意识迷失、发展方向不确定、学生就业形势严峻的危机,分析了其发展先天不足及深受时代潮流冲击无所适从的原因,探讨了英语专业建设存在的困难和机遇,提出了专业建设走出困境,解决危机的思路和途径。The constructions of English specialties in mid-western universities of science and engineering are facing problems such as the losing of subject awarerses, the uncertainty of the developmental course and the employment difficulty for their graduates. This paper analyses the two causes：a short time construction history and the influence of the quick development of society. It also studies the dilemma of the English specialty construction and its opportunities, and presents some thoughts and solutions to these issues.
