In today's college English text teaching class, the mode of teaching from the bottom to the top is still prevalent. This mode puts emphasis on imparting lexical, syntactical knowledge, but neglects the messages conveyed by the text. Undoubtedly this mode results in a dull classroom. One of the factors for this phenomenon is that the teacher practically minimizes the possible difficulties the students may encounter in learning process, thus leaving little or no information gap between the text and the students, which goes against the communication nature of language learning. In order to seek a solution to the problem, by introducing the principle of information gap, the paper first analyzes its revelations on college English text teaching, and makes an attempt to explore the application of information gap activities to college English text teaching by giving some teaching examples.
