摘　　要：《园中处女》是英国当代作家A.S.拜厄特女性四部曲的第一部。已有评论指出小说融合了现实主义和虚构性,具有现实主义和实验主义交织的特征。本文在此基础上进一步分析现实与虚构在文本中的体现。小说主要人物的现实生活与其内文本——一部关于英女王伊丽莎白一世的诗剧——的创作、排演过程混合交结,现实人物与虚构意象相互交织,写实传统与后现代技巧相互熔合,现实与虚构之间的冲突与制衡成为整部作品的张力所在。Featuring a mixture of realism and experimentalism, The Virgin in the Garden has received critiques on its combination of realism and fictionality. Following the thread, this essay endeavors to make a further analysis on the complicated representations of the real and the fictional, and hence points out that the battlement and balance between the two function as the frame of the story. Composing a theatre novel, A. S. Byatt mixes the personal dramas of the main characters with the writing and rehearsal of a verse play based on the life of Elizabeth I, showing how the characters＇ lives are strongly influenced by the dramatic roles they play, by the reader＇s reading experience, and by the author＇s writing anxiety. In this way, Byatt provides an intriguing discussion on the reality and fictionality of the characters, highlighting the tension between realist conventions and postmodern techniques.
