从符号学翻译观探讨“不折腾”的英译

摘　　要：2008年12月18日,胡锦涛总书记在纪念改革开放30周年大会上的讲话中使用了"不折腾"一词。一时间,如何翻译这一内涵丰富而微妙的通俗口语引起了网上广泛而热烈的讨论。参与讨论的除了广大网友之外,还有资深翻译、驻外大使和学术大师。本文根据符号学的翻译原则探讨了"不折腾"一词的多层意义并评析几种典型的英文译法。In his address at the conference held on December 18,2008 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the reform and opening-up policy,President Hu Jintao used ＂bu zheteng＂,a colloquial phrase so subtle and rich in connotations that its English translation has attracted widespread,heated discussions among netizens,prestigious translators,scholars and diplomats.In light of semiotic translation principles,this paper explores the various meanings of ＂bu zheteng＂ and evaluates some typical English translations of the phrase.
