摘　　要：简·奥斯丁与乔治·艾略特都以女性特有的目光来审视社会现实,生动描绘女性在男权统治社会中的坎坷命运,并深刻地揭示了妇女的心理情感,开创了19世纪英国女性文学创作的新纪元。但是,相比而言,简·奥斯丁小说中体现出的妇女观、社会观和道德观明显带有18世纪的传统思想特征,而乔治·艾略特的小说则以宏大的历史目光和开阔的思想视野,对社会与道德问题进行了深入思考,更加细腻地展示了19世纪女性的内在困惑。Jane Austen and George Eliot co-founded a new era of nineteenth century women literature by describing the society closely from women's standpoint,reflecting women's fate in a man-centered world and probing into women issues.However,comparatively,the thought in Austen's novels had the unmistakable characteristic of the eighteenth-century traditional society,while Eliot's adopted a wider historical perspective on the social and ethical problems of her time,exploring the inner anxieties of nineteen century women.
