摘 要:戊戌变法前后,中国文坛上曾出现过两次"文学无用论"思潮。前者以梁启超等人为代表,后者以严复、王国维和周氏兄弟为代表。长期以来,人们往往把它们混为一谈,实际上二者的内涵并不相同。戊戌变法前的文学无用论,从实用的角度看待文学,把文学看作一种工具,认为无用即无价值,本质上是一种否定文学的理论。而戊戌变法后的文学无用论则认为文学是一种艺术,它本身就是目的。文学虽非实用却自有独立的艺术价值。因此,本质上不但不是否定文学的理论,而且是一种更深刻、更彻底的肯定文学的理论。Around the period of the 1898 Reform Movement,there appeared two trends of thoughts of "uselessness of literature" in the literary world of China.The first one was represented by Liang Qichao et al.and the second by Yan Fu,Wang Guowei and Zhou Brothers.The two,long been confused with each other,two are actually different in their connotations.Being a theory of literature negation in nature,the first one,takes literature as a tool from a pragmatic perspective,and considers it useless.The second deems literature an art,taking literature itself as the purpose.Although literature is not pragmatic,it has independent artistic value.Therefore,the second is not to negate literature,but a profound and penetrating theory of literature affirmation.
