摘　　要：艺术空白是小说创作中普遍存在的一种审美现象。康拉德在小说创作中善于运用"空白"叙事手法增加作品的信息量、召唤力和艺术感染力,使读者获得更多的审美自由和审美愉悦。空白艺术的引入不仅使康拉德可以多层次、多角度、更加客观真实地反映复杂的现代经验和多变的社会现实,而且大大提高了他作品的丰厚性、含蓄性和作品题旨的多义性。Artistic blankness is a universal art form in fiction creation.Joseph Conrad is adept in employing the tech-nique of blankness to add the amount of information in his fiction,to increase its vitality and to reinforce its artistic ap-peal,which gives the reader more freedom of appreciation as well as more aesthetic enjoyment.This paper aims at inter-preting the art of blankness in Conrad’s fiction from the three aspects of language deletion and ambiguity,indirect narra-tion and nonlinear narrative structure.It holds that the technique of blankness in his fiction enables Conrad to depict the complicated modern experience and changeable social reality more objectively and multifacetedly,and at the same time en-rich the implicitness and ambiguity of his fiction.
