摘　　要：自由问题是当代文化中的一个焦点问题。贝娄作为当代最具代表性的美国犹太小说家之一,其作品既富有浓郁的犹太性,又具有深厚的现代文化意蕴。自由意识是贝娄小说创作的主要命题之一。在小说《挂起来的人》、《抓住时日》、《雨王汉德森》等作品中,主人公所做的一切几乎都可以归结为寻找自由和拯救。贝娄借助主人公"寻找自由"和"逃避自由"的方式,再现了现代人在寻求自我过程中对自由的理解,反映了人类在现代文明社会中的生存处境。The problem of Freedom is the focus in modern culture.Being one of the most representative American Jewish writers,Bellow′s works not only has a strong implication of Jewishness,but also has a deep meaning of modern culture.Consciousness of freedom is one of the major themes in his writing.In the three novels,Dangling Man,Seize the Day,Henderson The Rain King,all the protagonists do is to seek freedom and redemption.By depicting their ways of seeking and running away from freedom,the writer wants to show the readers people′s understanding about freedom while searching for self-identities,which reflects human′s living situation in modern civilizations.
