摘　　要：当代中国面对的问题形成了各种思潮的交汇点,不同的思潮对"中国道路"的理解和评价也大不相同。历史研究必须从现实出发,这个现实就是改革开放和中国特色社会主义道路的历史独特性。如何看待这一历史创造的独特性?如何揭示隐含在中国现代社会转型中的历史逻辑和理论意义?涉及到重大历史评价问题。马克思主义理论的基本品格所承载的历史使命,要求马克思主义理论必须为捕捉当代世界和当代中国的问题提供具有世界观和方法论作用的哲学视角。中国社会的历史性质、传统及其文化的价值判断、全球时代文明的多样性、中国道路的科学内涵、中国未来的发展方向等等,对这些问题的科学判断在学理基础层面都必然集中到马克思的社会形态理论和历史价值观上。为此,本刊特约这组专题论文,展开讨论。The problems contemporary China faces have drawn the attention of scholars of diverse persuasions whose understandings and evaluations of the 'China road' vary greatly.Historical research has to start from reality,that is,from the historical uniqueness of China's reform and opening up and socialism with Chinese characteristics.How are we to evaluate the uniqueness of this historical creation? Are there major historical institutional differences between China and the West that predestine them to different specific modes of social development and transition toward modernization? How can we reveal the historical logic and theoretical meanings underlying social transformation in modern China? For issues involving important historical evaluations,historical materialism remains a significant guide in both practical and academic contexts.The historical mission contained in the fundamental character of Marxist theory makes it necessary that this theory should provide a philosophical perspective that serves as a world outlook and methodology for addressing problems in contemporary China and the contemporary world.Scientific judgments on issues such as the historical characteristics of Chinese society,the evaluation of tradition and culture,the diversity of civilizations in our global age,the scientific implications of the China road and the future development of China will inevitably focus,at the fundamental level,on Marx's social formation theory and values about history.Hence this written exchange.
