Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of E-cadherin(E-cad) and p120 and the clinicopathological features in human hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Methods Immunohistochemical staining for E-cad and p120 was performed using Envision method in 80 specimens from patients with HCC.Results E-cad expression and p120 expression decreased by 63.75% and 70.00%,respectively.The reduced expression of E-cad and p120 was significantly correlated with tumor grade(P0.001),and the expression of p120 was correlated with tumor stage(P0.001).The reduced expression of E-cad was significantly correlated with intrahepatic metastasis and capsular invasion(both P0.01),and the expression of p120 was correlated with tumor size and intrahepatic metastasis(P0.001 and P0.05,respectively).However,the expression of E-cad and p120 was not significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis, vascular invasion and satellite lesions. There was a correlation between p120 expression and AFP(P0.05).Conclusion The reduced expression of E-cad and p120 occurs frequently in HCC and is correlated with HCC development and progression.
