摘　　要："释"是严译《天演论》达旨术最重要的变通策略"增"之一种。"释"的单位有字、词、小句、复句,以词语为多。"释"的方式有释正以俗、释以中例、释略以详、释以背景、释以内涵等。严译的"释"具有释疑解惑、解释原因、具化内容、提供相关知识等功能。INTERPRETATION is a kind of amplification, belonging to one of the most important strategies of translation adaptation approaches in YAN Fu＇s Chinese version Evolution and Ethics. The unit of INTERPRETATION can be word, phrase, clause, or complex clause, with phrase accounting for the most part of the INTERPRETATION strategy. The methods of INTERPRETATION include using easily-understood expressions to interpret terminology, using China＇s well-known examples to illustrate original＇s meanings, employing detailed descriptions to convey the concise expressions in original, directly interpreting the background knowledge and the connotative meanings in original description to make the original＇s idea more clear and understandable, etc. The functions of INTERPRETATION in Chinese version of Evolution and Ethics cover eliminating puzzles, explaining causes, concretizing original＇s description, offering relevant knowledge and so on.
