【Objective】 To investigate expression of MIM(missing in metastasis) and VEGF(vascular endothelial growth factor) and their prognostic significance in gastric carcinoma.【Methods】 Tissue microarray blocks containing gastric tumor specimens from 282 patients were constructed.Expressions of MIM and VEGF in these specimens were analyzed using immunohistochemical(IHC) studies.【Results】 IHC showed that negative expression rate of MIM in gastric cancer was 66.3%.Negative MIM expression was significantly associated with advanced TNM stages, presence of lymph node metastases, poorly degree of tumor differentiation(P 0.05).The rate of VEGF positive expression was 64.5%.The over expression of VEGF had a significant relationship with age(60 y),higher tumor location and poorly differentiation(P 0.05).According to the Cox proportional hazards model,MIM and VEGF expression were correlated with prognosis. There were no correlation between MIM and VEGF.【Conclusion】 The results suggested MIM and VEGF may play a crucial role in the development and progression of gastric cancer.MIM and VEGF may be regarded as the potential molecular targets for therapy.
