试论《洪堡的礼物》中主人公的精神特质

摘　　要：《洪堡的礼物》中的主人公洪堡运用攻击和施虐的方法来对付荒诞世界所造成的精神危机,因而陷入躁狂、死亡的境地,而另一位主人公西特林则通过自由联想与人格完善来释放压力,调和实利主义与精神追求间的矛盾,最终在荒诞的世界中幸存了下来。索尔.贝娄通过对作品中两位主人公的精神探索及结局进行刻画,表达了自己对艺术家及现代人类生存模式的思考。Humboldt,the hero in Humboldt＇s Gift,dealt with the spiritual crisis of the absurd world by attacking and maltreating other persons,and therefore ended in mania and death.While another hero Citrine relieved his pressure,and reconciled the contradiction between materialism and spiritual pursuit through free association and the consummation of the personality,thus he eventually survived in this absurd world.By means of revealing the spiritual explorations and results of the two heroes in his novel,Saul Bellow showed his idea on the living models of the artist and the modern mankind.
