Objective To investigate the expression of Notch3 and its relationship with angiogenesis in ovarian epithelial carcinoma and its relevance to clinicopathologic features. Methods The expression levels of Notch3 and CD34 were detected by using immunohistochemistry SP method in 91 ovarian tumor specimens. The microvessel density(MVD)was determined with CD34 immunostaining of microvascular endothelial cells.Statistical analysis was performed using the software SPSS(version 12.0).Results Notch3 positive rate and MVD in borderline malignant ovarian cancer tissues were significantly higher than those in the normal and benign ones(P〈0.01).Notch3 positive expression rate in patients with ovarian carcinoma with FIGO stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ,poor differentiation and ascites were higher than in those with FIGO stage Ⅰ-Ⅱ and well differentiation and without ascites(P〈0.05).MVD was related to hitological grade and ascites(P〈0.05).There was a correlation between Notch3 and MVD(rs=0.531,P〈0.01).Conclusion The expression of Notch3 in ovarian tumor is related to angiogenesis.Notch3 may be involved in the development and metastasis of ovarian carcinoma.
