Objective To measure the velocity and rate of cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) flow in cerebral aqueduct of normal children. Methods Cine phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging(Cine PC MRI) was performed in cerebral aqueducts of 15 normal children. The CSF parameters such as maximal systolic velocity(MSV),maximal diastolic velocity(MDV),average flow rate(AFR) and stroke volume(SV) and net volume(NV) per cardiac cycle were measured and recorded. The parameters were compared between male and female. Results The MSV,MDV and AFR was-3.73±0.81cm/s,3.72±1.09cm/s and 7.61±2.84ml/min respectively in normal children. The SV and NV per cardiac cycle was 40.53±13.89μl and-8.89±5.09μl respectively in normal children. There were no statistical significance in the difference of every parameters between males and females(P0.05).Conclusions The normal values of cerebral aqueduct CSF flow in normal children are established by MRI,which provides assistance for quantitatively analyzing the diseases of CSF circulatory disturbance in cerebral aqueduct area in children.
