摘　　要：本文主要研究中美文化背景下拒绝言语行为的不同模式。拒绝言语行为发生在当说话人直接或间接地对一个请求或邀请说"不"时。社会文化变量,如地位、社会距离和情景设置会对礼貌策略的适当性和有效性产生一定的影响,从而影响到直接言语行为中拒绝的表达。This study mainly focus on the difference in refusal patterns between Chinese and American cultures.The analysis is conducted from a cross-cultural pragmatic study.The speech act of refusal occurs when a speaker directly or indirectly says no to a request or invitation.Sociocultural variables like authority,social distance,and situational setting influence the appropriateness and effectiveness of politeness strategies used to realize directive speech acts such as requests.
