摘　　要：语言随社会而变,语言变异产生语言变体。语言变体分地域变体、社会变体和功能变体。美国英语起源于十七世纪的英国英语,是英语的一种地域变体。和任何一种语言一样,美国英语也存在一些方言。美国英语具有保守、统一和创新的特点。美国的政治、经济、科技实力及美国的语言意识与语言政策使美国英语具有强烈的国际竞争力。Language changes with society.Language variation results in language varieties,including regional variety,social variety and functional variety.American English originates from the 17th British English,being one of its regional varieties.Like any language,there exist regional dialects in American English,which is considered as archaic,creative and unified.Due to America's unique strengths in politics,economy,science and technology in the world and Americans' Language consciousness and language policies,American English enjoys the greatest competitiveness among many other English varieties or among other world languages.
