摘　　要：小说《爱的牺牲》是欧.亨利最优秀的短篇小说之一,该作品充分体现了欧.亨利的写作风格。本文从功能语法的角度,按照Halliday的相关准则,即根据语言选择与情景语境相关的程度,对小说中"突出"的语言结构进行尝试性阐释。分析证实,突出的语言形式与情景语境和作者的整体意义表现出较高程度的相关,对语言结构和语言现象的解释和评价体现了功能语言学"选择就是意义"的重要观点。A Service of Love is one of the best novels of O＇Henry in which his style is highly realized. Adopting a perspective of functional grammar, this poper attempts to give the novel a funetional stylistic analysis by highlighting its characteristics under this framework. On the basis of the general description of language and in accordance with Halliday＇s relevance prin- ciple, this paper tentatively interprets those prominent language structures that quantitatively outnumber other structures. This kind of analysis may not only help us better understand the functional viewpoint of ＂choice is meaning＂ but also indicate that it is worthwhile＇ to analyze literary works from a perspective of functional grammar.
