Objective To study the influence of soybean isoflavones on occurrence and development of breast cancer in MMTV-erbB-2 transgenic mice. Methods In 90 female MMTV-erbB-2 transgenic mice,60 mice received surgical castration to create a low estrogen environment,in which 30 mice were fed with soy isoflavones diet(soy isoflavones group) and 30 mice were given normal diet. The other 30 mice receiving normal diet were as controls(control group). The latency and occurrence of breast tumor were observed.Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expressions of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and proliferating cell nuclear antigen. Results The tumor latency was obviously shorter and the expression rate of proliferating cell nuclear antigen was significantly higher in soy isoflavones group than that in the other two groups(P0.05).There were no significant differences in the expressions of estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor in these three groups(P0.05).Conclusion Soy isoflavones in low estrogen environment plays a catalytic role in the occurrence and development of breast tumor in MMTV-erbB-2 transgenic mice.
