Objective To observe the effect of sleep deprivation on ECG in rats. Methods The insomnia rats were produced by modified multiple platform suspended in water method, while a large platform group was set as control. Open-field test was applied to evaluate behavior of the model rats. The 45 rats were distributed into control group and sleep deprivation groups (sleep deprivation for 1, 3, 5, 7 d, respectively) randomly. Results The heart rates of the sleep deprivation rats showed a significant reduction from the first to the seventh day compared with the control group (P〈0.05). The PR interval and T wave interval were extended significantly from the third to the seventh day in sleep deprivation rats compared with the control group (P〈0.03). The QRS interval was abbreviated significantly from the third to the seventh day in sleep deprivation rats compared with the control groups (P〈0.05). The sleep deprivation rats showed decreased body weight and reduced significantly in the third ,fifth, seventh day compared with the control group (P〈0.05). Conclusion Sleep deprivation can induce bradycardia and myocardial ischemia changes of ECG in rats and suppress the increase of body weight in rats.
