Objective= To investigate the expression and significance of 14-3-3σ protein in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and carcinoma of the cervix. Methods:14-3-3σ were detected by immunohistochemical method in 10 cases of normal cervical mucosa tissues, 60 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and 58 cases of cervical carcinoma (CC). Results: The positire rates of 14-3-3σ in normal cervical mucosa tissues, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and cervical carcinoma were 100% (10/10),70%(42/60) and 43. 10% (25/58) respectively, which were down-regulated stepwise during the development of cervical carcinoma from normal cervical mucosa tissues (P〈0. 05). The increased expression of 14-3-3σ was observed in high differentiation degree of cervical carcinoma compared to moderate and poor differentiation degree (P〈O. 05). There were no significant differences in the histology type and age (P〉O. 05). Conclusion: 14-3-3~ protein may be correlated to the occurrence, development and differentiation status of cervical carcinoma, and may have the potential to become biomarkers for early diagnosis of cervical carcinoma and target molecules of cervical carcinoma prevention,
