Objective To investigate the expressions of AIB1 and PI3K protein in bladder urothelial carcinoma and to determine the correlation between two protein expressions. Methods Fifty two cases of bladder urothelial carcinoma and ten normal tissues of bladder were collected, from 52 patients underwent radical cystectomy. The level of AIB1 and PI3K protein expressed in these tissues were detected by immunohistochemical method. Results The positive rates of AIB1 and PI3K protein in bladder urothelial carcinoma were significantly higher than that of the normal tissues. No correlation was found between the expression of AIB1 protein and the clinicopathological features of gender, age, pathological grade, and multiplicity. The positive rate of AIB1 in T3 tumors was significantly higher than that in T1、T2(P=0.044).There was a positive correlation between the expression of AIB1 and PI3K (r=0.302,P=0.030).Conclusions The overexpression of AIB1 is a molecular marker for poor prognosis of patients with bladder urothelial carcinoma.PI3K/AKT pathway might be an important mechanism of AIB1 function.
