摘 要:English set phrases are one of the nightmares confronting Chinese learners. The main check is its ambiguity, in other words, they are apt to varying interpretation. In the paper three questions are discussed: the distinctive features of set phrases, the understanding of ambiguous set phrases and their variants. Under the guidance of Cooper's (1999) heuristic model of L2 idiom comprehension, this paper studies the comprehension strategies of Set Phrases and their variants as well as explores the implications to Set Phrase teaching.英语成语是中国英语学习者最头痛的难题之一,其中成语的歧义性是学习者掌握成语的难点所在。本文分析了成语的定义与区别性特征,成语的变体以及其确切含义的辨析等三个方面的问题,针对此结合Cooper(1999)的二语成语理解模式,研究适应中国英语学习者的英语成语理解策略并探索对成语教学的启示。
