摘　　要：乔伊斯宣称《都柏林人》书写了都柏林的瘫痪状态,但细读文本,却不难发现其中的许多平凡主人公心怀梦想,一直在追寻着什么。追寻贯穿着《都柏林人》的童年、青年和成人生活,乔伊斯分别以光、爱情、社会认同代表不同年龄阶段的不同追寻目标,然而由于周围环境和主人公自身的某种缺陷,这些追寻皆以失败告终,只有到了最后一篇《死者》,其主人公才明白,真正应该追寻的是激扬生命的本真状态,那里才是圣杯的真正所在。James Joyce claims that Dubliners intends to expose the paralytic state of Dublin, but a close reading reveals that the protagonists in the work somewhat cherish dreams. These beautiful dreams correspond to the pursuit of light in childhood, of love in adolescence, and of self-identity in adulthood. Due to the depressing environment and the protagonists＇ own inability, these pursuits fail. A reversal of the situation, however, occurs in the last piece, ＂The Dead＂, where the hero finds out the Grail in the authentic nature of life.
