Objective:The effect of Vitamin B 6 on lipid peroxidation induced by 3′ methyl 4 dimethylaminoazobenzene(3′ MeDAB)in rats was studied.Methods:51 male SD rats(86 g~122 g) were randomly devided into three groups : Group A received basal diet as normal control , Group B received 0.06% 3′ MeDAB in diet for 10 consecutive weeks, then received basal diet;Group C received 0.06% 3′ MeDAB along with Vitamin B 6(800mg/kg diet)daily in food for 10 weeks, then received basal diet along with the same dose of Vitamin B 6 for another 10 weeks. The rats were killed on the 45 day,90 day,140 day respectively in the experiment. The blood samples were collected from the abdominal aorta of the exprimental rats respectively for measurement of gluthione perosidase(GSH Px) and MDA content. Results:The MDA content of Group B was significantly higher than that of Group A (P<0.01),while GSH Px was dramatically lower than that of the latter.Supplementation of Vitamin B 6 inhibited the increase of MDA in serum at the early stage of carcinogenesis and restored the values of GSH Px in the blood. Conclusion:These results suggested that Vitamin B 6 is protective in limiting the action of GSH Px and depressing the lipid peroxidation during the initiation phase of hepatocarcinogenesis.
