摘　　要：传统地理环境理论有其合理因素和积极意义,但它在批判地理环境决定论的同时,却忽视甚至贬低了地理环境的社会作用,这是导致今天人与自然关系紧张的重要原因。当代资源环境问题严峻,环境科学等相关的现代科学迅速发展,坚持科学发展观、走可持续发展道路、加强生态文明建设、促进人与自然和谐发展越来越重要,从而凸显地理环境的社会作用以及地理环境理论的重要性,这就要求人们在新的时代背景下,解放思想,实事求是,与时俱进,重新认识、研究和评价地理环境的社会作用。The traditional theory of geographical environment is partly both rational and positive,but when used to criticize the geographical determinism,it often ignores the social role of geographical environment,which becomes one of the important reasons that cause the tense relationship between man and nature today.The contemporary resources-related and environmental problems have become so severe and the environmental science is developing so rapidly that it is getting more and more important for us to stick to the concept of scientific development,take the path of sustainable development,strengthen the construction of eco-civilization and promote the harmonious development between man and nature.All this prominently reveals the role the geographical environment plays in social development and the significance of the geographical environment theory.
