摘 要:Background: Hyperlipidemia; is an elevation of lipids (fats) in the bloodstream which include cholesterol, cholesterol esters (compounds), phospholipids and triglycerides. Currently a great need for non-synthetic therapeutic compositions for the control of hyperlipidemia in mammals is exists. The herbal compositions, of some inventions are synergistic in their effect and daily ingestion of such compositions of the inventions is an effective therapeutic method of achieving such control without the troublesome side effects on the liver, digestive system, and kidneys associated with synthetic drugs. Objectives: This study accomplished to evaluate the effect of adding herbal combination made from Artemisia herba Alba (aerial parts) and Nigella sativa (fruits) to the classical treatment of hyperlipidemia "simvastatin". Materials and methods: Twenty hyperlipedemic patients divided on two groups. One Group used simvastatin 20 mg one tablet at night for one month (Group A), the other Group (Group B) used simvastatin 20 mg one tablet with one capsule size "zero" ~ 700-4-10 mg of herbal medicine prepared from Artemisia herba Alba, and Nigella sativa at night for one month. Results: Pre- and post treatment of cholesterol and triglycerides levels for both groups are analyzed statistically using paired t-test showed *p〈0.01, indicate a significant reduction of both lipid parameters after treatment. Conclusion: However, the herbal preparation shows a synergistic effect with simvastatin, this effect is non-significant statistically. Using the herbal combination in larger doses than those used in our study but certainly must not exceed in any way the official doses, and if the hypolipidemic entities (compounds) are extract, characterized and used in the convenient way a better result may get.
