摘　　要：阿贝尔是近代数学史上最伟大的天才数学家之一。他英年早逝却为代数方程论、椭圆函数论、积分方程做出了开拓性贡献。为纪念这位民族英雄,挪威政府自2002年起设立了数学国际最高奖———阿贝尔奖。本文介绍了阿贝尔鲜为人知的生平事迹及国际影响。Abel is one of the greatest mathematicians in modern history of mathematics. Despite his untimely death, he madepioneering contributions to the Theory of Algebraic Equation, Elliptic Function and Integral Equation. To commemorate this nationalhero, Norwegian government established the highest international award named after him since 2002. This paper reviews his lesswell known life and international effects.
