It is ten years since the disintegration of the vanguard stories for the new period. In a fairly calm atmosphere, we should see that vanguard stories intrinsically simulated the Westem later modernist school of literature. Vanguard stories did not really bring forth new ideas. Some critics hold that vanguard stories blong to the later modernist school of literature, but they have obviously neglected the sharp difference of cultural tradition and social life between China and the West. The so called vanguard writers of the new period were actually important intermediaries for studying and simulatingthe present day western literature. Their practice set an example to other writers. In this sense, the so called vanguard school should be apropriately called a school of simulation.
