摘　　要：美国作家伊迪斯·沃顿的著名短篇小说《罗马热病》,以罗马城为背景,通过两个中年妇女多年后再次在罗马相聚时对过去二人之间发生的一场博弈的回忆,以象征与隐喻、对照与反衬的表现手法,逐步揭开两个主人公各自埋藏于内心深处的秘密,进而让两人年轻时暗中进行的这场战争的内幕渐渐暴露在读者面前。The famous short story Roman Fever was composed by American writer Edith Wharton, who takes Rome as the setting and employs expression featured with symbols and metaphor, contrast and comparison through the recalls of the past batde be- tween the two middle-aged women while travelling and staying again in Rome, gradually exposes the secrets hidden deeply in the minds of the two protagonists, resulting in the exposure of the battle behind the scenes to the readers.
