摘　　要：乡下人"和"乡下人的特点"是沈从文对于自身独特精神结构和感知模式的表述。"乡下人的特点"既有民族文化的"遗传",也有个体后天经历的积淀,但它主要是指那种深入到主体心灵深处的潜意识的认知形式。沈从文对于"乡下人"身份并不是完全认同的,一方面他认为"乡下人特点"是自己实现生命意义的生物基础;另一方面他又感觉到"乡下人的特点"让自己回避了时代、社会赋予的重任,并给生活带来很多麻烦,因此称之为"乡下人弱点",并与之战争了一辈子。＂ Country folk＂ and ＂the characteristics of country folk＂ are interpretations of Shen Congwen＇ s unique spiritual structure and his perception mode. On one hand, ＂the characteristics of country folk＂ inherits from national culture; on the other hand, it derives from individual＇s acquired experience. But it mainly refers to the cognitive form which penetrates into the sub- consciousness of the subject＇ s soul. Shen Congwen doesn＇ t approve the identity of ＂country folk＂, for one, he believes that ＂the characteristics of country folk＂ is the biological foundation of realizing the meaning of his life ; for another, he feels that it let him evade the mission that time and society assigned for him and brings a lot of trouble. Therefore, he calls it ＂the weakness of coun- try folk＂ and fights with it all his life.
