摘 要:本文是对我国外语界资深教授虞建华的访谈录。在访谈中,虞教授结合自己教学和科研的经验,提出重树外语专业人文学科权威的问题。他坚决主张高等教育的本质在于"育人",是为人的终身发展打下基础。大学育人表现在两个方面,一是育师,二是育生。前者需要教师通过科研提高和丰富自己,而教师思辨能力和"问题意识"的提升,又是"育生"质量的前提和保障,因此科研是强师强校的必由之路。虞教授强调,外语学科不是"工具学科",而是人文学科,人文学科是人本学科,以育人为根本。为此他提出"学以致知"的鲜明理念。This is an interview with Professor Yu ies and foreign language education in China. Based on fers some insightful reconsiderations on Foreign zes that higher education is not job-oriented, b Jianhua, a well-known scholar in the field of literature stud- his many years of teaching and research in university, he of-Language and Literature as a discipline of humanities. He emphasi- ut should regard as its central task the cultivation of people, laying foundation for their life development. We need better teachers for better students, and critical ability and intellectu- al curiosity on the part of the faculty are enhanced through the research that they undertake, and that in turn, guar- antees the development of students' critical and analytical intelligence. He is determinedly opposed to the idea that foreign languages are "tools" and as such the students are to be trained to master the know-how. For that matter, he puts forward "study for the purpose of knowing" as against "study for the purpose of application" as the basic tenet of university education.
