Dance of death, also called "danse macabre" in French, is a fantastic imagery of the Middle Ages. With the "Pamassism'" (Art for Art' s Sake Movement in France) and the Symbolism, the dance of death was created by many famous poets and reflected their aesthetics and criticism. This article makes an attempt to analyze how some great French Parnassian poets as Throphile Gautier, Charles Baudelaire and Anatole France find the beauty and the delicacy in the fear of death.
