摘　　要：A convenient protocol has been developed for the hydrogenation of metallo-protoporphyrin IX dimethyl esters （MPPDMEs） to their mesoporphyrin analogues using CoC12-NaBH4 reagent system. Metallo-porphyrin complexes were found to perform as self-catalysts in this procedure.
