摘　　要：在《爱玛》这部小说中,爱玛与弗兰克二人的缺点或所犯的错误,连同这些错误招致的批评甚至羞辱,是奥斯丁赋予其浪漫爱情的前提条件。只有当浪漫爱情看似一种惩罚时,作者才能使主人公安全地获得基于爱情的婚姻。这是奥斯丁在一个浪漫爱情与保守传统冲突的时代以退为进的写作策略。爱玛与弗兰克因犯错而受的批评和委屈,使他们最终所获的婚姻显得更像一种补偿与安慰。同时,作者给浪漫爱情硬加上道德义务与社会功能,浪漫爱情的道德功能也成为爱情自我救赎的"资本"。The mistakes that Emma and Frank Churchill make,along with the attendant criticism and humiliation to which they are subject,are the pre-condition for Jane Austen to reward her characters with love and marriage.At a time of heightened tension between romantic love and conservative ideology,love-based marriages were in a precarious situation unless they came in the form of punishment.Whereas the humiliation that characters suffer wraps their conjugal happiness in the semblance of consolation,their foibles create an opportunity for love to demonstrate its power to improve a person,hence its socially redeeming value.
